Experimenting with layering

So far this piece has about 3 layers of design and color. Thinking of drawing another layer of flowers over it and painting with more neutrals. However, I really like the texture coming thru.

Birds birds birds!

The sweet singing outside my window in the morning has me thinking all sorts of Spring thoughts. I think it's time to buy a new dress:-)

fantasy house portraits

Information for workshop participants coming to the house portrait classes...

we will begin with a photo of your house, or some other building that you wish to design. You will need to bring a minimum 8x10 photograph or print out of your house. Try to print it out on card stock if at all possible. If it prints out on a couple of different pages, that's great, too! These photos will be glued down onto masonite panels and collaged with magazine cutouts, etc. You can also bring photos from other structures that you might like to add to your original, such as columns, stairs, a front porch, or some fabulous addition like a sunroom or gazebo. Scale is important so look for photos that are larger, 3x5 to 4x6 range, rather than too small. Larger photos will create the foreground and middle ground, smaller ones create the background. don't worry if all of this sounds overwhelming, I will teach you all about scale and perspective in the class.

Clay ideas

After meeting with Brian at Fort pottery last weekend for what seemed like an entire afternoon, I came away with no less than 87 new ideas and a trunk full of beautiful red majolica clay and several neutral colors of engobes and underglazes. Now if I can muster up the courage to make a few sample tiles. Is it me or does the whole chemistry of working w clay and glazes just seem so intimidating?

I started drawing with a brush again in an effort to create my designs automatically. By rewriting over and over again it takes the thinking out of it and the lines become more expressive.

Reworking the old

This used to be a white bear with a messenger bird on his back that left me thinking "huh?" So in an effort to rescue it (read "why waste perfectly good canvas") I used some old flowers from water color paper and collaged that into the head and body. I'll update w new pictures as it unfolds.
