color works

final version. well, at least for today:~)

I've been thinking a lot about color recently. I'm working on inventory for the Acworth Art Festival and mentally preparing for the Create Retreat  this summer and I really need to follow my own advice and just paint without thinking sometimes and see what happens. Here are some photos of one of the war horses. I posted photos of this guy earlier but he's undergone some drastic changes along the way...

decided to try something drastic.
used negative painting to create the flowers.
cooled off the background.
the cool violet over the yellow flattened out the color too much.
where i started, too yellow

Birches

I'm toying with translating my painting process into clay. I've got this idea for platters and last night during a fit of anxiety over self employment I had this idea to use crackle glaze as birches. I've decided to throw down colored slips for the first layer then carve my fish and embroidery drawings into that. This is where I get tripped up. not exactly sure how to get the color accents into the birches once I've got that crackle glaze on there. Maybe a low fire last edition at the very end...

But first I suppose I need to get the platters made. I really think I need an intern :-)

Living the American Dream

Part of what I will be writing over the next year will be my transition from full time government employee ( public school teacher) to full time artist. What does that mean? I guess that's what we are going to find out. There are so many variables it makes my head spin.

Release your creativity Fall 2011

Finally putting up these photos from the painting class last Fall. We had a great time and the weather was so nice everybody ended up outside.

Painted Ponies

30x40 acrylic, oil pastel
So here is the latest edition to the "war horse" series. I've painted this guy quite a few times in several iterations and I never get tired of him (her?). I'm hoping to market this image to a children's home furnishings catalogue or something along those lines. One of my goals over the next 12 months is to get a contract with someone like Pottery Barn. I mean, a girl can dream, right?
